The League of European Research Universities (LERU) elected Prof. Yves Flückiger, Rector of University of Geneva and President of swissuniversities, as its new Chair. He takes over from Prof. Karen Maex, outgoing Rector Magnificus of the University of Amsterdam. Prof. Linda Doyle, Provost of Trinity College Dublin is a new member of the Board of Directors.

The election of a Swiss Chair signals the importance LERU attaches to the association of Switzerland and the UK to Horizon Europe, as stated by Prof. Luc Sels, Rector of KU Leuven on Twitter.

LERU also celebrated its 20th anniversary on 19-20 May in Leiden, European City of Science 2022. It provided a unique forum for the rectors of Europe’s leading research universities to exchange views with their counterparts from outside Europe and with high-level representatives from the government and business sectors.

High level speakers such as Mariya Gabriel (European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Education), Maria Leptin (ERC President), Christian Ehler (Member European Parliament) and Prof Mariana Mazzucato (University College London) addressed LERU members at the anniversary conference.
