This website was created and published by flake on behalf of the ETH Board, co-initiator of the pan-European initiative “Stick to Science”, which has been set in motion together with the two Federal Institutes of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL) and Zurich (ETHZ) and the umbrella organisation of Universities of the United Kingdom, UK Universities, and the Wellcome Trust.

Under Article 13 of the Federal Constitution and under federal data protection law, everyone is entitled to have their privacy protected and to have their personal data protected from misuse. We comply with these provisions. Personal data is treated according to the dispositions of the Federal Act on Data Protection. We will also comply with the provisions of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 insofar as they apply to us.

2. Scope of Application
This Privacy Notice applies to the website www.stick-to-science.eu. It may be amended at any time without prior notice, so please review it occasionally.

3. What happens to your data?
a) Retention and erasure
The processing of personal data on the web page www.stick-to-science.eu is limited to the data that are required to provide a properly functioning website and user-friendly content and services, or to the data that you have actively made available to us. The personal data that we collect is only retained for as long as they are needed in order to fulfil the purpose concerned. Certain data may be retained for longer in order to meet statutory requirements or other obligations.

b) Data stored when completing a form
If you complete a form on our website (e.g. a contact form), we process the data that you provide us to the extent that this is required to fulfil the purpose of processing or to deal with your request. Normally any information we receive is provided on a voluntary basis. Obligatory fields are only marked as such if the information is required in order to fulfil our statutory duty or to deal with your request or enquiry. These data are erased when the statutory retention period expires at the latest.

When you register for the campaign “stick to science” (e.g. using any form) personal data is collected. This personal data is processed on the basis of your consent during the registration process, and is used only for the purpose of the campaign. This includes in particular, that we may share the personal information with the co-initiators of the campaign and publish your personal information in the list of signatories and on the website www.stick-to-science.eu as indicated in the registration form transmitted by you, with the exception of your email address and if you sign in as an institution, we will not publish the personal information of your designated contact person.

c) Data stored for the purpose of sending information material about the campaign
If you signed up to receive information material about the campaign, the following data will be recorded: your first name and family name, any title, your function, your portrait picture if uploaded, your possible quote, your email address and telephone number, your institution’s name, the logo of your organisation if uploaded, city and country. Your personal data related to sending out the information material to which you subscribe will be erased immediately at the end of the campaign.

d) Data stored for the purpose of web analysis
When you visit this website, anonymised access information (date, time, page viewed) may be stored on the server. The data stored in log files includes inter alia the type of browser used, the operating system, the web page from which you were directed to this website, the internet protocol address and other similar data. This data is used for technical analysis when maintenance work is carried out and also for averting risks in the event of attacks on our systems. When using this data we do not draw any conclusions about the person concerned. The data is used for statistical and data protection purposes.

This usage data forms the basis for statistical, anonymised evaluations for the purpose of tracking trends so that we can improve the information on offer. Under the Federal Act on the Surveillance of Post and Telecommunications, there is a statutory duty to store data on all connections made in the past six months.

In close cooperation with our hosting providers, we make every effort to protect the databases as effectively as possible from outside access, data loss, misuse or falsification.

We employ professional services from companies and individuals to help us operate our Services. External operators have to meet the prerequisites set out in the provisions of Swiss data protection legislation as we do.
