The Russel Group of 24 leading British universities has written to both UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič in charge of the UK-EU relations, calling on them to intervene to break the deadlock on UK association to Horizon Europe, and “unlock the enormous benefits to the UK & EU”.

Speaking at the LERU 20th Anniversary Conference, Russell Group Chief Executive Dr. Tim Bradshaw reiterated the UK’s commitment to Horizon Europe and expressed his concern that “the UK and EU are now teetering on the brink of losing UK association to Horizon Europe”, and that failure to associate would be bad news for research and innovation.
