The Western cantons from Switzerland wrote a open letter to the Federal Council on 29 June calling for the association of Switzerland to Horizon Europe.

The seven State Councillors recall that “while the potential of a knowledge-based economic system is immense, its fragility is unfortunately just as great. Such a model must be based on constant innovation, an ability to project oneself into new modes, an aptitude to face competition, and a constantly renewed curiosity. Switzerland is perfectly capable of meeting these challenges, as demonstrated by its status as the most innovative economy for the eleventh year in a row. But it needs to be given the means to do so. It is this issue that is at the heart of the deep concern that our governments share regarding Horizon Europe.”

The signatories of the letter are State Councillors Cesla Amarelle (VD), Crystel Graf (NE), Anne Emery-Torracinta (GE), Christine Häsler (BE), Olivier Curty (FR), Christophe Darbellay (VS), Martial Courtet (JU).
