The Fields Medal is awarded to recognize outstanding mathematical achievement for existing work and for the promise of future achievement.

The winners for 2022 are James Maynard at the University of Oxford; Maryna Viazovska at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL); Hugo Duminil-Copin at the University of Geneva, Switzerland; and June Huh at Princeton University in New Jersey.

Out of four winners, three of them are currently working in leading institutions based in non-associated countries to Horizon Europe. Two of them, James Maynard and Hugo Duminil-Copin, were also awarded ERC Starting Grants.
